Walking on the water

Walking on the water
performance, 3rd Edition of the Water Critical Mass, KBF, The Vistula River, Krakow PL, 2014

A female figure wandering on the water follows in the footsteps of an old legend about Princess Wanda. Princess Wanda – the daughter of King Krak, who is said to have founded Krakow – rejected a suggestion of a German prince. An offended prince then attacked the Polish country with his army. Polish army under the command of Wanda managed to counter the attack. However, Wanda has decided to plunge into the river in order not to provoke further attacks (in another version of the legend, Wanda’s life should have been a sacrifice for victory). The performance presented a gesture of disenchanting the legend. Wanda walking proudly on the Vistula River symbolized an emancipated, strong woman in the EU era who breaks with the prejudices rooted in history.
